I picked up the Sega Genesis Collection for my PSP back in 2006, a portable bundle of classics from Sega and Digital Eclipse. It was perfect for the era, letting you carry a chunk of 16-bit history in your pocket without a stack of cartridges. The selection covers a lot of ground, from frantic platformers to deep RPGs, all running smoothly on the handheld.

You control a variety of characters across the included games, like Sonic racing through loop-de-loops or Alex Kidd leaping across chasms. The main objective changes with each title, but generally you're fighting enemies, navigating levels, and chasing high scores. Signature mechanics include the screen-by-screen exploration of Altered Beast, the strategic weapon switching in Streets of Rage, and the precise platforming of Sonic the Hedgehog. The pacing is fast in action titles but deliberate in puzzlers like Columns, and the difficulty remains true to the originals (which means some games are still tough). It feels satisfying to revisit these games with the convenience of quick saves and a bright, clear screen.
