Game Overview

I spent a lot of evenings in the early '90s with Seven Card Stud, part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection from 1992, published by Masque Publishing. It was a straightforward digital version of the poker variant, one of many card and board games that filled out software catalogs back when hard drives were measured in megabytes. There wasn't much flash to it, just a clean, functional table on the screen, but it was always there when you wanted a quiet game.

You play against up to seven computer opponents, betting, folding, and trying to build the best five-card hand from the seven you're dealt. The game unfolds round by round, with new cards dealt face up or down, and you have to track what everyone might be holding based on their visible cards. The AI could be surprisingly shrewd, folding weak hands but pushing hard when it had a strong one, which kept you from getting careless. It feels like a patient, thoughtful puzzle, a test of memory and nerve more than speed.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
