Game Overview

Seven Cities of Gold Commemorative Edition came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Ozark Softscape. It was a re-release of the original 1984 game, updated for a new generation of players who were exploring the possibilities of early PC gaming. At the time, it stood out for its ambitious scope and open-ended approach to historical exploration.

You take on the role of a Spanish explorer, navigating the New World in search of legendary cities rumored to hold immense wealth. The game unfolds through screen-by-screen exploration of a vast, procedurally generated map. You trade with native tribes, establish settlements, and sometimes resort to force to claim resources. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical; you spend a lot of time managing supplies, navigating coastlines, and deciding when to press onward or turn back. It feels like a genuine journey into the unknown, full of risk and occasional reward.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
