Sheriff is a 1979 arcade game by Nintendo, preserved in MAME 0.243. It appeared when many games were still built around simple, repeating loops of action. You control a sheriff tasked with defending a town from outlaws.
You move your character left and right across the bottom of the screen, shooting bandits who approach from above. The main goal is to survive wave after wave of enemies while protecting the central jail. Two key mechanics include ricocheting bullets that bounce off the sides of the play area and stage-clearing dynamite you can use in tight spots. The pacing is relentless; the screen quickly fills with adversaries and their projectiles. It feels tense and demanding, a straightforward test of reflexes and spatial awareness.
