I picked up Shin Sangoku Musou 5 Special on the PSP back in 2009, a portable version of the console Dynasty Warriors game by Omega Force and Koei Tecmo. It was a solid fit for the handheld, letting you dive into large-scale battles during commutes or between classes, even if the visuals took a noticeable hit compared to home consoles.

You control a single officer from Romance of the Three Kingdoms lore, cutting through thousands of enemy soldiers with combos and special musou attacks. The main goal is to capture bases and defeat enemy generals to turn the tide of each historical battle. Signature mechanics include switching between two weapon sets mid-combo and using horseback combat to traverse the map quickly. The pacing is fast, though the AI can be predictable, and the challenge varies by character and difficulty setting. It feels mindless in the best way, a simple power fantasy perfect for short bursts.
