Game Overview

SimCity for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System came out in 1991, developed by Maxis. It was one of the earlier city-building games on the console, arriving at a time when many players were still getting used to the idea of simulation and management titles. The game offered a different kind of challenge compared to the action and platforming games that dominated the SNES library.

You play as the mayor, responsible for transforming an empty plot of land into a functioning city. You zone residential, commercial, and industrial areas, then build power plants, police stations, and roads to support growth. Disasters like fires and monster attacks can strike without warning, forcing you to react quickly. The pacing is deliberate; you watch your city expand slowly, dealing with budget shortfalls and citizen complaints. It feels satisfying to see your planning pay off as neighborhoods thrive, even when things go wrong.
