Skunny - Special Edition 1995 is one of those weirdly lovable MS-DOS platformers that feels like it was made by someone who really loved Sonic but also had a thing for squirrels. You play as Skunny, a little guy who moves way faster than you'd expect—like, one wrong jump and you're sailing straight into spikes. The controls are tight, though, so it never feels unfair, just punishing in that classic '90s way.

The levels are bright and chaotic, full of bouncing apples (why do they bounce so high?) and enemies that look like they escaped from a Saturday morning cartoon. I kept getting distracted by the backgrounds—some of them have these weird little details, like smiling clouds or oddly placed signs. The music’s got that chiptune cheeriness that burrows into your brain and stays there for hours.

It’s short, but the Special Edition adds some extra stages that ramp up the difficulty. By the end, you’ll be nailing pixel-perfect jumps like it’s second nature. Or at least, that’s the idea—I definitely rage-quit a few times first.
