Game Overview

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2007, developed by Slant Six Games and published by Sony. It was part of that wave of tactical shooters on the PSP that tried to bring a more deliberate, thoughtful style of combat to a handheld, standing apart from the faster, run-and-gun titles common at the time.

You control a squad leader directing a four-man SEAL team through missions set in Panama, issuing commands via a drag-and-interface system to position your units, set up flanking maneuvers, and coordinate synchronized attacks. The main objective is to complete missions with minimal casualties, often involving hostage extraction or eliminating high-value targets. Signature mechanics include planning ambushes by positioning your squad members behind cover, previewing grenade trajectories before throwing, and using slow-motion mode to precisely time your commands during firefights. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush in without a plan. It feels like a tense game of chess where every move counts, and a single mistake can get your whole team wiped out.
