Game Overview

Solomon’s Key 2 is one of those NES games that never made it outside Japan, which is a shame because it’s a fantastic follow-up to the original. You’re Dana the wizard again, but this time you’re rescuing a fairy named Coolmin—and the puzzles are even more devious than before. Every level feels like a little maze where you’re placing and destroying blocks to navigate, avoid traps, or sometimes just survive long enough to figure out what the heck you’re supposed to do.

It starts simple, but before long, you’ll be staring at the screen, trying to work out if you need to drop a block here, vanish one there, or just accept that you’re about to get crushed by a boulder again. The controls are tight, though, so when you mess up, it’s usually your fault—not the game’s. If you liked the first one or just enjoy puzzle games that make you think (and occasionally swear), this is absolutely worth tracking down.

Just be ready to get stuck. Like, really stuck.
