Sonic 3 & Rainbow Dash is a fan-made hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog 3, released unofficially for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) in 2020. It reimagines the familiar zones and mechanics of Sonic 3 by replacing Sonic with the My Little Pony character Rainbow Dash, offering a new visual and gameplay twist on the classic platformer.

You control Rainbow Dash as she speeds through re-skinned versions of Angel Island Zone and other stages, collecting rings and defeating Robotnik's badniks. The main objective remains to clear acts and face the final boss, but movement is altered; her flight ability allows brief hovering and mid-air directional boosts, changing how you approach jumps and enemy patterns. Level layouts are familiar yet demand adjusted timing, especially during loop-de-loops and corkscrew paths where her aerial control shines. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty mirrors the original, though the new mechanics can make some sections easier or more unpredictable. It feels like revisiting an old friend who suddenly learned some flashy new tricks.
