Game Overview

So, Sonic Chronicles on the DS—it’s basically Sonic trying his hand at RPGs, and honestly? It’s weirder than you’d expect. You’ve got turn-based battles where you tap the screen for timed attacks, and yeah, it feels a little awkward at first. But once you get the hang of it, there’s something satisfying about nailing those combos while Tails chucks wrenches in the background.

The story’s got that classic Sonic energy—Eggman’s up to no good, but this time there’s some weird interdimensional stuff going on. You recruit a bunch of characters (Knuckles is weirdly useful here), and the writing’s got just enough snark to keep things fun. Exploration’s simple but solid—you’ll be swiping the stylus to spin-dash through loops and solve light puzzles.

It’s not perfect—some of the mechanics feel half-baked, and the soundtrack’s… an acquired taste. But if you’ve ever wanted to see Sonic in a party-based RPG with Chao sidekicks, this is your weird little niche fix. Just don’t go in expecting Chrono Trigger.
