Game Overview

So, Sonic Wings Assault on the N64—it’s one of those arcade-style shooters where you’re basically thrown into the cockpit of a fighter jet and told to blow everything up. The planes handle like they’re on rails (in a good way), and each one has its own weird little quirks—some fire spread shots, others have homing missiles that look like they’re drunk but somehow still hit the target.

The first mission drops you right into the middle of a canyon, dodging enemy fire while trying not to slam into the walls. It’s chaotic, but in that satisfying old-school way where you’re just mashing buttons and grinning when your screen fills with explosions. The music’s got that cheesy synth-rock thing going on, which somehow makes barrel-rolling through a hail of bullets feel even cooler.

Honestly, it’s not the deepest game out there, but if you just want to shoot down enemy squadrons without overthinking it, this one’s a solid pick. The later levels get properly ridiculous, with boss fights against giant flying… things. You’ll know what I mean when you see them.
