Sonic Wings (or Aero Fighters if you played it in arcades) is one of those SNES shooters that feels like it's constantly trying to out-crazy itself. You pick from this weirdly charming roster—my personal favorite's the dolphin pilot, because of course there's a dolphin pilot—and then it's just nonstop bullets, explosions, and enemy planes coming at you from every angle.
The weapons start simple but get gloriously overpowered once you grab power-ups, turning your little jet into a screen-clearing death machine. It's not the prettiest shooter on the system, but there's something about the sheer chaos of dodging missiles while a dolphin screeches across the sky that never gets old. Fair warning though: it's tough as nails, especially when the screen fills with so much neon gunfire you can barely see your own ship.
If you miss that arcade-era vibe where games didn't hold your hand and just threw ridiculous fun at you, this one's still a riot.
