Sopwith 2 came out in 1985 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by BMB Compuscience. It was a follow-up to the original Sopwith, building on the simple but effective flight combat formula that felt right at home on early PCs. In an era dominated by text adventures and arcade ports, it offered a slice of aerial dogfighting you could run from a floppy disk.

You pilot a World War I style biplane, maneuvering across a side-scrolling landscape while engaging enemy planes and ground targets like balloons and hangars. Your main goal is to destroy enemy bases while protecting your own, managing limited fuel and ammunition between sorties. The controls are responsive but unforgiving; stalling or crashing is a constant threat, especially during tight turns or low altitude attacks. Despite the straightforward mechanics, each successful bombing run or evasive maneuver delivers a genuine sense of accomplishment. It feels scrappy and immediate, like every flight could be your last.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
