Space Hulk came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Hoplite Research. It was a digital adaptation of the board game, arriving at a time when turn-based strategy was still finding its footing on PC. The game captured the grim, claustrophobic tension of its source material without relying on flashy graphics, fitting right in with the thoughtful, methodical titles of that era.

You command a squad of Terminator Space Marines navigating derelict spacecraft infested with genestealers. Your main objective is to complete mission-specific goals, like securing areas or retrieving artifacts, while surviving relentless alien attacks. The game uses an action point system for movement and attacks, with a separate overhead map for planning routes. You spend most of your time carefully positioning marines to cover angles, managing limited ammunition, and reacting to threats that emerge from the dark. The pacing is deliberately slow, almost punishing, with mistakes often costing entire squads. It feels like directing a tense, unwinnable horror movie where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
