Spirits and Spells came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, published by DreamCatcher Interactive. It was part of that wave of action platformers that filled the GBA library, often with a spooky or cartoonish vibe. You play as one of three kids trying to escape a haunted mansion on Halloween night.

You control either a boy or one of two girls, each with slightly different abilities, as you move through interconnected rooms fighting monsters. The main goal is to find your way out of the mansion, but along the way you use a magic glove to possess enemies, turning them against each other or using their unique attacks. You also collect spell pages to upgrade your abilities and solve simple environmental puzzles. The pacing is brisk, with some tricky enemy placements that keep you alert. It feels like a lighthearted, slightly chaotic romp through a Halloween special.
