Stakes Winner is one of those arcade racers that somehow makes pixelated horses feel like an adrenaline rush. You pick your steed, mash the buttons to keep up speed, and pray you don’t wipe out on the final turn—because yeah, horses can totally wipe out here. The graphics are surprisingly detailed for an older arcade game, with jockeys bouncing realistically and dirt kicking up behind the pack.
What I love is how chaotic it gets when you’re neck-and-neck with three other horses, the screen shaking as you barely squeeze past the finish line. It’s not deep strategy, but the sheer intensity makes up for it. If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you’re inches from eating turf at 40 mph, this’ll do it.
