Game Overview

High Stakes came out in 1992 for MS-DOS, published by Martech Games Ltd. It was one of those early '90s releases that tried to blend adventure and strategy, set in the world of horse racing and high finance. You don't see many games tackle that kind of subject matter, especially back then.

You play as a wealthy toymaker and racehorse owner whose prized horse is stolen by a corrupt trainer. The goal is to recover the animal and expose the conspiracy. Gameplay involves moving screen by screen through stables, offices, and racecourses; talking to characters to gather clues and call their bluffs; and managing your finances to place strategic bets. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty comes from reading people and managing risk. It feels like stepping into a tense, personal drama where every conversation could tip the scales.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
