Play Steg the Slug Online
You slide around as a slug, dodging beetles and hoarding sparkly pickups while leaving a slick trail behind—somehow way more fun than it sounds. The synth soundtrack sticks in your head, and those neon pixel mazes make you feel weirdly fast for a mollusk.

Steg the Slug came out in 1992 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Codemasters. It was one of those simple, colorful platformers that felt right at home on a floppy disk, back when games didn't need a lot of explanation to pull you in. You played as a slug, which was an odd choice even then, but it had a certain charm that made it stand out in a sea of more conventional heroes.
You control Steg, a green slug, sliding through maze-like levels filled with enemies like beetles and other critters. Your main goal is to collect all the sparkling gems in each stage while avoiding hazards and foes. The movement is slippery and momentum-based; you leave a glistening trail behind you as you slide, which can sometimes block paths or trap enemies. The pacing is deliberate, not fast, requiring careful navigation rather than quick reflexes. It feels strangely satisfying to nudge a beetle into your own slime trail or perfectly time a slide to scoop up a cluster of gems. Playing it gives you that quiet, focused satisfaction of solving a spatial puzzle with very simple tools.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
