Play Street Fighter II Next Generation Online

Throwing fireballs feels snappier in this version—Cammy’s dive kicks and Fei Long’s combo strings make every match unpredictable, especially when you’re trading blows in turbo mode. That pixelated Chun-Li spin still looks unreal after all these years.

Game Overview

I first played Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo in 1992, a Capcom release that felt like a direct upgrade from the arcade. It was one of those games that defined the console, sitting right alongside platformers and RPGs as a must have for local multiplayer. The roster felt huge at the time, with all the original World Warriors present and correct.

You pick a fighter like Ryu or Guile and face off against seven opponents before the final boss. The main goal is to win two out of three rounds by depleting your opponent's health bar. Signature mechanics include executing special moves, like the Hadouken or Sonic Boom, by inputting specific joystick motions; the pacing is fast, especially with the turbo mode enabled, and the difficulty can spike sharply against the computer. Landing a perfectly timed Super Combo to win a close match provides a genuine rush of satisfaction.
