Game Overview

Summon Night 5 is one of those PSP SRPGs that feels like a proper mix of old-school charm and tactical depth. You start off picking between two protagonists—I went with Folth because, well, sword-wielding hero vibes—and suddenly you're thrown into Lindbaum, where half the time you're chatting with these expressive 2D character portraits (some of them are weirdly endearing, like the obligatory mascot creature who won’t stop cracking jokes).

Then, before you know it, you're gridlocked in turn-based battles where positioning actually matters. The 3D maps aren’t just for show—you’ll quickly learn that leaving your healer in the open is a terrible idea. The story’s got that classic "mysterious past unraveling" thing going on, but honestly, I stuck around for the banter between fights. It’s the kind of game where you lose an hour because you got too invested in some side character’s random backstory.

If you’ve played earlier Summon Night games, there’s some neat callbacks, but it stands fine on its own. Just don’t expect flashy cutscenes—it’s all about the slow-burn strategy and surprisingly sharp writing.
