The main goal is to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, but along the way you explore branching paths, uncover hidden exits, and collect power ups like the Cape Feather that lets you fly. The game encourages exploration, with many alternate routes and secret levels to discover. The pacing is brisk but forgiving, with plenty of checkpoints and extra lives, though some later stages ramp up the challenge significantly. It feels responsive and fluid to play, with tight controls that make every jump and spin attack satisfying to execute.
