The first time I booted it up, I half-expected a janky imitation—but nope, it's the real deal. Those first few levels feel like slipping into a favorite pair of shoes, except someone secretly added springs to the soles. Same crisp jumps, same satisfying *boing* when you bounce off a Koopa, but now there are these weird little twists—like a power-up that turns Mario into a walking trampoline (trust me, it's way more fun than it sounds).
The new levels have that perfect mix of "Oh, I know how this works" and "Wait, how was I supposed to—OH COME ON." And the music? They somehow managed to make those SNES soundfonts even catchier. I caught myself humming the underground theme for days. It’s not just nostalgia bait either—there’s actual craft here, like when you stumble into a secret area and realize the whole stage was designed around some ridiculous hidden path. Feels like playing Mario World for the first time again, in the best way possible.
Also, Yoshi has a new trick involving watermelons. That’s all I’ll say.
