Game Overview

Syndicate came out on the Amiga in 1993, developed by Bullfrog Productions. It was one of those games that felt different from everything else at the time, a tactical action title set in a grim, corporate-controlled future. You didn't play a hero; you managed a team of augmented agents doing dirty work for a sprawling megacorp.

You control a squad of four cyborg agents from an isometric view, directing them through dense, hostile city streets to complete objectives like assassinations, data theft, or demolitions. The real hook is the Persuadertron, a device that lets you temporarily brainwash civilians and police into fighting for you, turning the population into a disposable weapon. Between missions, you spend your profits on cybernetic upgrades for your agents, enhancing their speed, armor, or weapon accuracy. The pacing is tense and deliberate; rushing in usually means a quick death, so you learn to use cover, flank enemies, and leverage your gadgets. It feels calculated and ruthless, like you're solving violent puzzles with a very sharp tool.
