Game Overview

I picked up Tarzan on the Game Boy back in 1999, a little portable tie-in to the Disney movie from Activision. It was a time when licensed games were everywhere, and this one fit right in, a side-scrolling action platformer you could take anywhere. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a solid jungle adventure in your pocket.

You control Tarzan, navigating left to right across branching paths, climbing vines, and swinging on ropes to avoid pitfalls and enemies like leopards or baboons. The main goal is to rescue Jane from Clayton, which involves progressing through distinct jungle zones, each with their own hazards. You collect tokens scattered around the levels, and there are these occasional, almost out-of-place minigames, like a sudden sliding section down a tree. The pacing is brisk, and it can get surprisingly tricky with some precise platforming required. It feels quick and responsive, a straightforward challenge that captures the energetic movement of the character well.
