Game Overview

Tarzan for the Nintendo 64 came out in 1999, developed by Eurocom Entertainment Software. It was part of that wave of late 90s platformers, especially the ones tied to Disney films, that tried to capture some of that exploratory, action oriented feel on the console. The game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it fits right in with what was popular at the time.

You control Tarzan through a series of jungle levels, swinging on vines, climbing tangled webs, and sliding down roots. The main goal is to progress through each stage, rescuing animals and finding collectibles like tokens and letters. Signature mechanics include the vine swinging, which has a real sense of speed and risk, and the slide levels where you have to dodge obstacles quickly. The pacing is fairly brisk, with some challenging jumps and timing based sections that keep you on your toes. It feels energetic and a little unpredictable, especially when a mistimed leap sends you tumbling down into the foliage.
