Game Overview

I picked up Tarzan for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a side-scrolling action game published by Activision. It was one of those licensed titles that felt right at home on the handheld, colorful and straightforward, fitting in among the platformers and adventures of that era.

You control Tarzan through a series of jungle levels, swinging on vines, climbing trees, and avoiding hazards like pits and enemies. The main goal is to progress through each stage, rescuing animals and eventually confronting the leopard Sabor. The game uses screen-by-screen exploration, with some first-person vine sliding sections that break up the pacing. It can be challenging, with precise timing needed for jumps and swings, but moving through the levels with fluid motions gives a real sense of momentum. It feels energetic and fast, even when the difficulty spikes.
