Play Tarzan (USA, Europe) Online

Swing through vines and leap over pits in this GBC side-scroller—just when you get the rhythm, it throws in odd first-person sliding sections that keep you on your toes. The jungle looks great, but some jumps will test your patience.

Game Overview

So, this is the Game Boy Color version of Disney's Tarzan—you know, the one from the '99 movie. It’s mostly a side-scroller where you swing on vines, dodge leopards, and jump over pits like you’d expect, but there are these weird little mini-games thrown in too. One second you’re platforming, the next you’re sliding down branches in first-person, which feels kinda out of place but keeps it from getting stale.

The sprites are surprisingly decent for a GBC game—Tarzan’s animations are smooth, and the jungle backgrounds actually look like, well, a jungle. Some of the later levels get frustratingly precise with jumps, though. I may or may not have yelled at my Game Boy a few times.

If you’re into retro Disney stuff or just want a solid (if slightly janky) platformer, it’s not a bad way to kill an afternoon.
