Game Overview

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES throws you right into the sewers with all four turtles—Leo, Donnie, Mikey, and Raph—and lets you swap between them anytime. At first glance, they seem identical, but their weapons make all the difference: Donatello’s bo staff hits like a truck and reaches far, but swings painfully slow, while Raphael’s sais are quick but leave you up close and personal with Foot Soldiers. Good luck choosing a favorite.

The overworld map lets you bounce between sewers, warehouses, and some truly weird spots (who put a blimp here?), but don’t get too comfortable—those two continues disappear fast. And yeah, you’ll definitely lose a turtle or three to chainsaw maniacs or Rat King ambushes. Later levels force you to backtrack and rescue captured brothers, which is equal parts satisfying and stressful. Just try not to throw your controller when you realize you’re down to Michelangelo with half a health bar.
