Game Overview

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Manhattan Project came out on the NES in 1991, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that wave of late-era NES games that really pushed what the console could do, with bigger sprites and more detailed backgrounds than its predecessor. This one always felt like a direct translation of the arcade experience, but made for your living room.

You control one of the four turtles, fighting through side-scrolling stages to stop Shredder from lifting Manhattan into the sky. Each turtle has their own signature weapon and a unique throwing attack, like Leonardo's spinning katana toss. You can perform a special attack by pressing both buttons, which drains a bit of health but clears the screen in a pinch. The pacing is fast, with enemies swarming from both sides, and the difficulty is pretty relentless, especially in two-player mode where the screen can get chaotic. It feels like a solid, frantic brawl from start to finish.
