Game Overview
Tenchu: Time of the Assassins came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2006, developed by K2 LLC and published by FromSoftware. It was part of a wave of action and stealth games that tried to make the most of the PSP's hardware, offering a portable version of the console Tenchu experience during the system's early years.
You control either Rikimaru or Ayame, two ninja assassins working to uncover a conspiracy in feudal Japan. Your main goal is to complete missions by infiltrating enemy compounds, gathering intelligence, and eliminating key targets. Signature mechanics include using stealth kills from above or behind, avoiding detection by staying in shadows or on rooftops, and employing tools like grappling hooks and poison rice. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring patience and observation, and the difficulty can spike if you're spotted and forced into open combat. It feels tense and methodical, rewarding careful movement over brute force.
