Play The Amazon Trail Online

You paddle down the Amazon, trading with villages and barely avoiding piranhas while hunting for a malaria cure—half the time you’re just trying not to flip your canoe or starve. Spotting jaguars and arguing with historical figures feels weirdly natural between fishing trips gone wrong.

Game Overview

I first played The Amazon Trail back in the 90s, when it came out on MS-DOS as part of the Classic Games series from MECC. It was a time when educational games tried to be more than just quizzes; they built little worlds you could get lost in. This one drops you into the Amazon rainforest with a purpose, and it never holds your hand.

You control an explorer traveling by canoe, managing your health and supplies while navigating the river. Your main goal is to find a cure for a disease, which involves trading with villages, fishing for food, and avoiding hazards like piranhas and capsizing. The game moves screen by screen, with each new section presenting choices about where to go or how to respond to events. It’s not fast; you spend a lot of time just trying to survive, making careful decisions with limited resources. Playing it feels like a quiet, sometimes tense journey where every small success matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
