Game Overview

I first played The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight back in the late 80s, when it came out for MS-DOS as part of the Classic Games lineup from Electronic Arts. It was a time when dungeon crawlers were really hitting their stride on PC, and this one built directly on the foundation of the first game, pulling you back into its grim, grid-based world without much hand-holding.

You control a party of up to six characters, moving them screen by screen through towns and deadly dungeons, hunting for the pieces of the shattered Destiny Wand. Combat is turn-based; you input commands for each character, choosing spells or weapon attacks, and managing resources like health and magic points becomes critical. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty is unapologetic, with traps, secret doors, and high-level monsters waiting around every corner. It feels like a genuine test of patience and planning, where every step forward is earned through careful strategy.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
