Game Overview

Test Drive II came out in 1989 for MS-DOS, published by Accolade. It was part of that wave of early PC racing games where the focus was on simulation and realism, even if the tech was still pretty basic. You weren't just racing; you were managing a high performance car on open roads, and that alone set it apart from arcade style competitors at the time.

You control a selection of exotic sports cars, like a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, and the goal is to complete point to point stages without wrecking or running out of fuel. The signature mechanics include manual shifting with a clutch, avoiding police cars that try to pull you over, and monitoring your fuel gauge, which actually forces you to plan your speed and route. The pacing is tense, not fast; one wrong move or a missed shift can end your run. It feels like a constant battle against the car, the road, and your own mistakes.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
