Game Overview

I first played The Games: Summer Edition on MS-DOS back in the late '80s, when Epyx was putting out a lot of these multi-event sports compilations. It fit right in with the era, a time when you expected a certain amount of pixelated charm and straightforward, if sometimes clunky, gameplay. It wasn't trying to be a simulation; it was just a collection of events you could jump into.

You control an athlete competing in events like the 100-meter dash, swimming, and archery. The main goal is to win medals by performing well across all the competitions. The mechanics are simple but demanding; you often hammer keys to build up speed or use precise timing to release an arrow or execute a dive. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially in events requiring rhythm. It feels like a genuine test of reflexes and memorization more than pure athletic skill.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
