The Goonies II came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Konami. It arrived during a time when licensed games were often simple platformers, but this one tried to blend several styles into one adventure. You control Mikey, searching for his missing friends and a mermaid captured by the Fratelli crime family. The game shifts between side-scrolling areas where you use a yo-yo to fight enemies and find hidden switches, and first-person dungeon sections where you talk to characters, collect items, and unlock doors. Progress hinges on discovering key items and passwords that save your place; the maze-like structure and obscure objectives make it quite challenging. It feels like piecing together a stubborn puzzle where every small victory matters.
