I first played The Goonies on MS-DOS back in the late 80s, a time when Konami was putting out some of the most memorable side-scrollers. It was based on the movie, of course, and it captured that sense of adventure pretty well for a game of its era. You control Mikey, and the goal is to rescue your friends from the Fratelli family while exploring a network of caves and hidden passages.
You move screen by screen, kicking rats, avoiding enemies, and collecting keys and bombs to progress. The asthma meter adds tension; if it runs out, Mikey can't move until it refills. The pacing is deliberate, and some sections require careful timing, especially when dodging enemies or navigating traps. It feels like a condensed, interactive version of the film's underground chase.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
