I picked up The Itchy & Scratchy Game for the Super Nintendo back in 1995, a side-scrolling action game developed by Bits Studios. It was a time when licensed games based on cartoons were everywhere, and this one tried to capture the over-the-top cartoon violence of the show. You play as Itchy, the mouse, and your only goal is to hunt down Scratchy, the cat, in a series of themed stages.

You control Itchy through single-screen levels, each filled with hazards like buzzsaws, anvils, and TNT. Your main weapon is a giant mallet, which you swing to smash enemies and break obstacles. The objective is simple: find Scratchy and hit him enough times to finish the stage. The pacing is frantic, with traps and enemies spawning constantly, and the difficulty can feel cheap at times due to unpredictable enemy patterns. It feels exactly like controlling a miniature, chaotic cartoon brawl.
