I picked up The Pinball of the Dead for the Game Boy Advance back in 2002, a Sega release that came out during a time when licensed spin-offs and quirky genre mashups were pretty common on the handheld. It’s part of the House of the Dead series, but instead of a light gun shooter, you get a pinball table overrun with zombies. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s part of its charm.
You control the pinball, launching it into a monster-filled playfield where the goal is to clear screens of zombies by hitting them directly or triggering environmental hazards. Each table is split into distinct sections, and you move between them by hitting specific ramps or targets. You’ll also face boss enemies that require precise shots and quick reactions to defeat. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly, especially when multiple enemies crowd the board. It feels chaotic and satisfying when you pull off a risky shot and wipe the screen clean.
