Game Overview

Time Bandit came out in 1983 for MS-DOS, developed by Bill Dunlevy and Harry Lafnear. It was part of that early wave of PC games where you never quite knew what you were getting into, a time when genres were still mixing and matching. The game doesn't try to be just one thing; it's a grab bag of ideas thrown into a single package.

You control a small character moving through a maze of gates, each one leading to a different themed world. Your main goal is to collect keys and find the exit in each area, but every gate changes the rules. One moment you're avoiding ghosts in a Pac-Man style maze, the next you're solving simple text parser puzzles or dodging enemies in a top-down shooter. The pacing is frantic because you never settle into a rhythm; the difficulty comes from adapting on the fly to completely new mechanics. It feels chaotic and unpredictable, like digging through a box of someone else's old game concepts.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
