TMNT on NES is one of those games that feels nostalgic but also kinda rough around the edges. You start off controlling the turtles in an overworld map, switching between them to navigate sewers and city streets—until you drop into side-scrolling combat that's way harder than it looks.

The hit detection is janky, and some jumps feel like pure luck. But there's something satisfying about slowly figuring out each turtle's strengths—like Donatello's long reach or Raphael's speed—even if you'll probably lose a few lives to cheap enemy placements first.

It’s not the smoothest game, but the moody music and pixel-art New York rooftops give it charm. Just don’t expect the arcade version’s polish.
