Tom and Jerry for the NES came out in 1991 from Hi Tech Expressions, a company that put out a number of licensed games in that era. It was one of many platformers trying to capture the feel of a cartoon, a common goal on the system, though not all of them managed to feel quite right.
You play as Jerry, moving through a house screen by screen, trying to collect pieces of a torn-up invitation to a party while Tom patrols the area. Your main tools are marbles you can place on the floor to make Tom slip, and sometimes you can jump on his head to stun him. The levels are full of doors and mouse holes you can use to escape, and the challenge comes from managing Tom's persistent, if predictable, patterns. It captures the spirit of the chase from the cartoons, even if the execution can feel a bit stiff and repetitive after a while.
