Blast through side-scrolling levels as Arnold Schwarzenegger, mowing down terrorists with clunky-but-satisfying 90s shooting mechanics. That nightclub shootout opener either hooks you fast or makes you rage-quit over the janky jumps.

Game Overview

True Lies on the SNES came out in 1994, developed by Beam Software and published by LJN. It was one of many movie tie-ins from that era, a side-scrolling action game that tried to capture the over-the-top spirit of the film on the 16-bit hardware.

You control Harry Tasker, an undercover spy, through a series of linear stages. Your main goal is to shoot every enemy you see, from generic thugs to helicopter gunships, while occasionally rescuing hostages. The signature mechanics include a basic run-and-gun style with limited ammo management, platforming sections that require precise jumps (which can be frustrating), and a few driving or turret sequences. The pacing is fast and often unforgiving, with enemy fire coming from all directions. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clumsy, but occasionally satisfying blast from the past.
