Ultimate Paintball on the Game Boy Color is this weird little hybrid of top-down strategy and first-person shooting that somehow works. You start out creeping around maps in that classic overhead view, scouting for the flag—but the second you step into enemy turf, it flips to this tense side-scrolling mode where you’re locked in place, dodging paint pellets while lobbing grenades.

Early levels ease you in with basic shootouts, but later maps get brutal—multiple flags to defend, smarter AI, and way more ambush spots. The weapon shop helps, though. Nothing like saving up for that rapid-fire paintball gun after getting wrecked one too many times by the enemy team’s sniper. It’s janky in that charming GBC way, but once you get the rhythm, the back-and-forth between modes actually feels pretty clever.
