Ultimate Paintball came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, developed by Light and Shadow and published by Telegames. It was part of a wave of late-era Game Boy Color releases that tried to bring more action-oriented, competitive experiences to the handheld, though it never gained much mainstream attention.

You control a paintball soldier from a top-down perspective, moving through outdoor arenas divided into separate screens. The main goal is to eliminate all enemy players on each map before they take you out. When enemies spot you, the view shifts to a side-scrolling combat screen where you dodge incoming paintballs and grenades while returning fire. Between matches, you spend earned cash on weapon upgrades like rapid-fire markers or more powerful grenade launchers. The pacing is tense; you creep carefully to avoid ambushes, then engage in quick, frantic shootouts. It feels scrappy and unpredictable, especially when you're low on ammo and forced to make a desperate rush for the enemy base.
