Game Overview

UMS II: Nations at War came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Intergalactic Development. It was a time when real-time strategy was still finding its feet, and this game offered a unique twist by focusing entirely on user-made scenarios and pre-built armies rather than base building. You didn't construct barracks or gather resources; you just jumped straight into the fight with what you were given.

You control a mixed force of units from different historical periods, everything from Roman legionaries to futuristic hover tanks, and your goal is to eliminate all enemy forces on each map. The terrain plays a huge role; forests provide cover for infantry, hills give ranged units a firing advantage, and rivers slow down movement significantly. The pacing is methodical, almost chess-like, as you carefully position your units to exploit the landscape and enemy weaknesses. It feels like solving a violent puzzle where every move counts, and a single misstep can lead to a quick defeat.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
