Vampyr: Talisman of Invocation is one of those weird, moody MS-DOS games that sticks with you—mostly because it never holds your hand. You start off as this vampire hunter (or maybe you become the thing you're hunting—no spoilers) in a world where every shadow feels like it's hiding something. The pixel art is surprisingly creepy, and the puzzles? They don’t just hand you solutions. You’ll be poking at cryptic symbols and second-guessing every door you open.
It’s not your typical hack-and-slash. Combat’s clunky in that old-school way where positioning matters more than reflexes, and half the time you’re just trying to figure out if that NPC is lying to you. The atmosphere nails that gothic horror vibe—like if someone mashed up Castlevania with a point-and-click adventure, then ran it through a DOS filter. Definitely play this one with the sound on; the chiptune soundtrack does half the work in making your spine tingle.
Fair warning: save often. The game has a habit of punishing curiosity in the best (and worst) ways.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
