Game Overview

Veil of Darkness is one of those weird, moody MS-DOS gems that somehow slipped under the radar. You’re dumped into this gloomy valley where everything wants to kill you—werewolves lurking in the fog, skeletons clattering out of nowhere—and the isometric view makes it feel like you’re peering into some cursed dollhouse. No fancy skill trees here, just you, a handful of weapons, and a lot of desperate puzzle-solving while monsters close in.

The atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a knife. You’ll be fumbling with keys, reading ominous notes, and jumping at shadows while the soundtrack creeps under your skin. Combat’s clunky by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about whacking a vampire with a torch and hearing it screech. It’s easy to see how this paved the way for stuff like Diablo, even if it never got the same love.

Shame Event Horizon vanished—they had a knack for dark, messy, fascinating worlds. If you dig retro horror with a side of jank, this one’s worth dusting off.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
