Venus Wars came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of late NES games trying to do something a little different, adapting a darker animated film into an action title. The game doesn't try to be another bright platformer; it leans into a more serious, sci-fi war setting.

You control a soldier piloting a high-speed hoverbike across the battlefields of Venus. Your main goal is to survive each stage, fighting off enemy bikes and ground troops to reach the end. The core gameplay splits between fast vehicular combat, where you dodge and return fire, and on-foot sections where you jump off your bike to clear out infantry with a blaster. The difficulty is relentless, demanding quick reflexes for dodging bullets and precise aim when dismounted. It feels like a desperate, constant fight for survival where every screen cleared is a hard-won victory.
