Game Overview

Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness came out in 1995 for MS-DOS, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It was one of those games that defined the real-time strategy genre in the mid-90s, sitting right alongside titles like Command & Conquer. You either played as the human Alliance or the orcish Horde, each with their own distinct units and structures, and the whole thing had this gritty, high-fantasy war aesthetic that felt pretty fresh at the time.

You control everything from peasant workers who chop wood and mine gold to knights, grunts, mages, and even giant ogres. The main goal is to build up your base, gather resources, train an army, and wipe your opponent off the map. Key mechanics include managing multiple unit production buildings, researching upgrades for your troops, and using spellcasters like the Death Knight or Paladin to turn the tide of battle. The pacing is fast; you’re constantly balancing economy and aggression, and the difficulty can spike hard if you’re not paying attention. It feels chaotic and satisfying when your strategies actually come together.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
