Game Overview

WCW/NWO Revenge came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by AKI Corporation and published by THQ. It was one of the standout wrestling games on the system, arriving when the N64 was the go-to console for local multiplayer mayhem. The roster was huge, pulling from the Monday Night Wars era, so you had all the major WCW stars and the various NWO factions ready to brawl.

You pick a wrestler and step into the ring, working to weaken your opponent with strikes, grapples, and Irish whips into the ropes. The main goal is to pin them for a three count or make them submit, but you can also win by knocking them out or throwing them over the top rope in a battle royal. Key mechanics include building a special meter by performing moves or taunting, which lets you unleash a powerful signature finisher when it's full. The grappling system is deep, with weak and strong variations changing based on your proximity to the ropes or an opponent's condition. Matches have a good back-and-forth pace; the computer puts up a decent fight on higher difficulties, but the real challenge comes from another person on the couch. It feels responsive and chaotic in the best way, like you're directing your own messy, dramatic wrestling show.
