Game Overview

Remember that old-school Carmen Sandiego charm? Where in America's Past sticks to the formula—tracking down thieves across history—but throws in some neat twists. Instead of jet-setting, you're digging through dusty archives, matching suspects to historical events like the Gold Rush or the Boston Tea Party. The clues are trickier here (good luck figuring out if that "stovepipe hat" reference means Lincoln or just some random 1800s dude).

What I love is how much random history you absorb without realizing it. One minute you're chasing a thief who left a trail of molasses, next thing you know you're reading about the Great Molasses Flood of 1919. The in-game help actually feels useful too—none of that vague "check your clues" nonsense from earlier titles. Just don't get too comfy—Carmen's final showdown is brutal if you didn't pay attention to all those "boring" historical tidbits earlier.

Still holds up as the smartest game in the series, even if the graphics scream 1991.
